MoneySense

We have now achieved MoneySense accreditation in recognition of our commitment to teaching our pupils how to use money safely and responsibly.  We strongly believe that it is important that all of our children are encouraged to develop an awareness of the importance of maintaining their own financial wellbeing throughout their lives.

The MoneySense website scheme, mymoneysense.com has a parents section where you can download activities to do at home. On this website children can also explore a Virtual Bank to enable them to become familiar with the services available in a real bank branch.

As part of the MoneySense scheme all of the children in Years 2 and 5 have been joined by a volunteer from the MoneySense Natwest scheme to participate in workshops.  In  Year 2 the children learned about how we use money, how it can be spent, saved or donated.  They also explored the difference between 'needs' and 'wants'.

In Year 5 children became detectives investigating a crime of fraud.  In doing so they developed an understanding of the causes and dangers of identity theft and fraud.  They also learnt ways in which they, themselves can try to avoid becoming the victims of fraud.

All of the children enjoyed participating in the workshops and we are very grateful to the volunteer from MoneySense for joining us.  We hope to organise further workshops in the future for other year groups in our school.
