Eco-Schools Award

Saint Thomas of Canterbury Primary School has achieved the Silver Eco-School Award. As a school, we have elected an Eco-School committee. The committee has assessed recycling within the school as well as, energy, litter, water and healthy living. We have been working very hard to promote recycling within our school and we now recycle:

• Printer Ink Cartridges
• Paper
• Crisp Packets
• Batteries

 Our Eco-School committee leaders also attended the Walsall Against Single Use Plastic (WASUP) conference at Walsall Hospital which showcased many ways we can deal with the rate plastic is being used and how it is being disposed of.

Within the school we have an Eco-School display with an action plan that addresses how we are improving recycling and energy usage; as well as an eco-audit showing what we currently do as a school. Many of our displays around school promote energy saving schemes and we have reintroduced the A stars walking to school scheme to encourage less transportation on our roads. The school council have also had meetings as regards improving the school environment by planting more trees and working at achieving the Wildlife Trust Green Tree Award.
